Jessica Simpson said she is very proud of learning her lines and making faces for her first leading role in a movie. "I'm carrying the weight of the movie on my shoulders," Jessica said of her role in "
Blonde Ambition".
Jessica Simpson isn't no dumb blonde like a lot of people think. She knows she has to work hard to climb the Hollywood ladder to become a full-fledged actress and movie star. The blondie now turned
brunette worked a few smaller jobs as a waitress in "
The Dukes of Hazzard" and as a cashier in a Costco like store in "
Employee of the Month." But with
Blonde Ambition Jessica Simpson wants people to take her seriously as an actress.
"I don't want to sound conceited or brag or anything, but I really did do a good job," "I am so proud of myself." Jessica said after the filming of the movie wrapped up. "
Blonde Ambition," to be released this summer is inspired by the 80s classic "Working Girl." which starred Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford and Griffith was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the movie. But Simpson's "
Blonde Ambition" is more a reimagining of the film's theme than it is a remake. It's about a young woman's journey up the corporate ladder producer Justin Berfield said. "She starts at the bottom and works her way to the top."
The movie puts Simpson in many humiliating situations as a beer girl and bike messenger. "There are so many Lucille Ball moments," Jessica said. "Dane Cook taught me how to do that, he used his body language a lot. And the women who do that, like Goldie Hawn or Meg Ryan, do that so well, and it just makes the comedy so much better. Jim Carrey is obviously the best at it; he does all the different faces. But I have so many different faces in this movie that I never knew I had before." Helping Jessica get laughs for the movie this time is Luke Wilson and her movie pal from "
The Dukes of Hazzard," Willie Nelson who plays Simpson's grandfather in "
Blonde Ambition." Also Andy Dick who appeared with Simpson in her
A Public Affair video and in "
Employee of the Month." In "
Blonde Ambition" Jessica's character is Katie who's trying to get noticed on the job. Andy Dick said, "Remember the Sigourney Weaver part, the mean boss?" "I'm her assistant. I'm more present than the boss. I'm the evil one. It's going to be good."
Simpson was smiling just thinking about her insane co-star. "I love you, Andy Dick, I love you so much, but he's crazy out of his mind!"
Jessica Simpson laughed. "He's a genius, I believe that. He is just so great behind the camera and makes everybody on the set laugh so hard." The laughs on the set were much needed because early in the production Jessica was feeling the stress. "The hardest thing about '
Blonde Ambition' was that I'm carrying the weight of the movie on my shoulders," Simpson said. "I was in every shot, pretty much, and it was very time-consuming. You don't really understand until a week after you're done shooting, and you're like, Oh my gosh, I memorized all those lines! Wow!" With Jessica's own blonde ambition guiding her, she is getting ready to start filming her next movie, "
The Witness," at the end of March. And no, the movie isn't a Harrison Ford remake either. "I don't want to be a typecast," Jessica laughed. "But if I were, it would just make me want to prove myself even more."
