DirecTV Does Advertising Wrong Using Jessica Simpson?

According to a USA Today survey recently taken people didn't like DirecTV's TV spots featuring Jessica Simpson as Daisy in The Dukes of Hazzard movie. The same people surveyed also didn't like DirecTV ads with William Shatner playing Captain Kirk from Star Trek. We know advertising is tough and some say DirecTV doesn't get it. The survey results illustrated the ads didn't target DirecTV's ideal male market of middle class men ranging in age from 35-55. The ads obviously didn't appeal to many women either, but if they were included in the survey, the results are skewed.

I can't see many men complaining about Jessica Simpson talking about 1080i. DirecTV, just get them 100 national HD channels you promised for 2007 and use them as an advertising ploy.

DirecTV has since pulled the Jessica Simpson ads last month when ordered to do so by a New York judge while a lawsuit by Time Warner Cable proceeds against DirecTV for false advertising. Time Warner is upset by DirecTV's claims that satellite broadcasting is superior to cable. DirecTV disputes the lawsuit by the cable giant. In the advertisement Jessica Simpson says, "Hey, 253 straight days at the gym to get this body and you're not going to watch me on DirecTV HD? You're just not going to get the best picture out of some fancy big-screen TV without DirecTV. It's broadcast in 1080i. I totally don't know what that means, but I want it." The lawsuit was first filed against DirecTV in December. The judge also said that DirecTV will still be allowed to use comparative advertising about overall picture quality compared to Time Warner Cable.
