Nick Lachey Biography

Nick Lachey
As far as pop singers are concerned, Nick Lachey is certainly a well known name around the industry as well as the gossip magazines. Born on November 9, 1973 in a little town of Harlan, Kentucky, no one ever realized how incredibly popular this soon to be singer would become, including Nick himself.

The Early Years
Nick was born to parents Cate Fopma-Leimbach and John Lachey. They left the tiny Kentucky town to move to Cincinnati, Ohio. While in grade school Nick found his real passion in life, something he was sure he could make a career out of, football. The only problem was that his mother didn't particularly love the sport herself, always afraid Nick would get hurt. She told Nick that she would not
allow him to play until high school. Undeterred Nick would play with his friends at
the local park, and practice until his hands bled and his feet had blisters.

Then his brother Drew, younger by 3 years, found out that he had been accepted into Cincinnati's highly regarded School for Creative and Performing Arts. Nick's mother was ecstatic, so much so that she convinced Nick to try it out. Nick agreed reluctantly to audition assuming that he would leave in ninth grade to attend a public high school with an excellent football team. He found himself loving the school, the attention from the women, and he found his voice. He stayed at the school perfecting his skill until he graduated. After a short stint at USC as a theater major, he went back to Ohio to study at Miami University for sports medicine. It was then Nick became who he is today.

Life with the Band 98 Degrees
While on a summer break from Miami University he received an invitation to audition for an up and coming band. His pal Jeff Timmons joined him in L.A. to see how they would both do in a group. His brother Drew and his friend Justin Jeffre joined them shortly after Nick realized how perfectly they would fit into the group. This is how 98 degrees was formed. Nick then realized that although he was torn between music and sports, singing would win out that time.

Shortly after they came together they released a self-titled album 98 Degrees. While it did go platinum, it wasn't until the second album, 98 Degrees and Rising came out that they suddenly realized how popular they became. They released two more albums called The Christmas and Revelation. With all four albums and the compilation album called "The Collection" they went on to sell over 10 million records before they finally decided to take a hiatus in 2002.

After the band split Nick decided to try a solo career. His first solo album, aptly titled "SoulO", came out to incredibly bad reviews and sales. At this point Nick Lachey was hugely popular among the teen girls and young women and was considerably heartbroken that his album was considered a commercial failure. Due mostly to his lack of success Nick took yet another break from singing and tried his hand at marriage and acting, sometimes at the same time.

When the word Newlyweds comes into conversation you can't help but think only of one couple, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson. Nick and pop singer Jessica Simpson met at the Hollywood Christmas Parade in December of 1998. Immediately they were interested but it was another month before they saw each other again at a Teen People party. Nick was smitten immediately and actually called his mother after the party and told her that he had met the woman he was going to marry. Four years later, in October of 2002, in a much publicized wedding, Jessica and Nick said their vows. The couple, who had both faded off the map after both had failed albums, was in need of a face lift so to speak.

Jessica's father, Joe Simpson, came up with the idea to follow their newly married lives through everything they did, personal and professional. It was simply thought of to give both of them a boost in their careers. Everyone, including them, thought it was a perfect idea. The show premiered in August of 2003 on MTV and was an instant success. The young couple was the talk of reality TV land with their hysterical conversations, outrageous spending, and basic marriage issues such as chores. This show catapulted Nick and Jessica back into the spotlight and onto the A-list again. Nick also appeared in a duet with his wife on her "ReJoyce" Christmas album in the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

Lachey took this time to try out his hand in acting. As well as filming Newlyweds he was also finding bits of work in films such as Bewitched and The Hard Easy. He then moved back to the smaller screen by guest starring on TV shows such as Charmed, Hope and Faith, and Twins. He also finally found a way to incorporate fame and sports in 2005 by making his debut as an on-site contributor to ESPN's College GameDay. He found himself following the games all over the country, and as a self professed sports fanatic, he was having the time of his life.

The Split
Over 3 seasons of Newlyweds Nick and Jessica found themselves at odds with each other and the persona of who they were trying to be. What started out as a reality show turned into their real lives. Each was unsure of how to behave since the show was portraying them in a certain light. The fans expected them both to be a certain way, and after 3 seasons they started to act as if the cameras were still with them, even when they weren't. They were far more popular by this time, and the press was hounding them every waking moment. Alone time was a rarity, even seeing each other on a regular basis became more and more difficult. When they weren't shooting they were often doing press engagements, movies, TV shows, public speaking engagements, and book signings. What they weren't doing is making time for each other.

Although they publicly denied rumors of their impending split they both knew they were having problems. Secretly they were talking about possibly going to counseling and working on their marriage. That would have been the case until Jessica suddenly announced she wanted a divorce. Jessica filed for divorce on December 16, 2005 citing irreconcilable differences. They sold the mansion that was so prominently displayed on Newlyweds and went their separate ways. Both said they would stay friends and love each other forever, but in Hollywood forever isn't very long at all.

Life After Jessica
Nick quickly found life again after his split with Jessica. He threw himself back into music and completed yet another solo album despite his previous failure. This time his music was written with emotion, mostly about his anger that had built up with this break up of his marriage to Jessica. On May 9, 2006 his 2nd solo album, "What's Left Of Me" was released, this time to rave reviews. The title track of the same name was an immediate success and quickly jumped up the record charts where it peaked at #6 on the Billboard hot 100 chart. The album itself debut at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, again proving that Nick Lachey was more than just a soon to be divorced reality TV star.

The second single off the album, "I Can't Hate You Anymore" was also a success, firing up media speculation even more about his divorce. In September of 2006 Nick was set to start touring, this time using his music to gain even more fame and fortune.

During this time he was even rumored to have found another woman to share his life with, and just recently confirmed that he indeed is in love again. This time it is with TV personality Vanessa Minnillo who is currently an on-air correspondent for Entertainment Tonight. Although they were together before the official divorce in June of 2006, nothing was confirmed until after that time. They are now being photographed together at parties, vacationing, and even on his tour with Vanessa sitting in the VIP section. Prior to his tour Nick even brought Vanessa home to Ohio to meet his family.

It seems that through success with 98 degrees, hardship on going solo, failure with his marriage, and now finally solo musical success Nick Lachey is not a name that will leave our mouths anytime soon. Although it is not known when he will be going back into the recording studio to make another album, he has said many times that he will be doing so in the near future. Although Nick still loves sports, he has said that he is glad he found his real passion again, singing.
